Dr. Plaga is a native of Salt Lake City, Utah. He attended the University of Utah where he graduated Magna Cum Laude in 1980 with a Bachelor of Science degree in Biology. He accepted an Air Force scholarship to attend medical school at the F. Edward Hebert School of Medicine, Uniformed Services University of the Health Sciences in Bethesda, Maryland. Dr. Plaga graduated from medical school in 1984 with honors. He completed a general surgery internship at Keesler Air Force Base, Mississippi. Dr. Plaga completed his orthopedic surgery residency at Wilford Hall USAF Medical Center in San Antonio, Texas where he had the opportunity to work with several world renowned orthopedic surgeons.
Dr. Plaga specializes in sports medicine and adult reconstructive surgery of the shoulder and knee. He is a fellow of the American Academy of Orthopedic Surgeons, American College of Surgeons and the Arthroscopy Association of North America. He is a clinical assistant professor at the University of South Dakota School of Medicine and the Uniformed Services University of the Health Sciences.
