Stretching and aerobic activity are key parts of your recovery. Strong muscles help prevent knee problems and improve basic fitness. But be sure to check with your health care provider before starting to exercise on your own.
Stretching makes your body more flexible. It may also help prevent future knee problems. Try to stretch before and after exercise. When stretching, relax, breathe slowly, and don't bounce. And never stretch if it hurts.
You can likely begin some activities before your knee is fully healed. Start with non-weight-bearing activities, such as swimming or riding an exercise bike. Talk to your health care provider before trying other kinds of aerobic activities.
Setting Your GoalsGoals give you something to work toward. They also show you how far you have come. Your health care provider can help you set your goals. Below are some ideas. Write out your own goals on a piece of paper.
