IDET Surgical Procedure

NEW TREATMENT FOR BACK PAIN!

Intradiscal ElectroThermal Therapy (IDET) is the newest treatment available to orthopedic surgeons for relieving patients' back pain. Specifically, IDET is a treatment for patients with degenerative disc disease. The treatment is a minimally invasive procedure. Patients can expect to return home the same day of the procedure.

IDET uses the SpineCATH Intradiscal Catheter which delivers thermal energy to the disc. A coil at the end of the catheter heats up the disc. The heat treats the protein wall of the disc and reduces the volume of the disc material that causes nerve irritation. Painful nerve endings can also be destroyed by the heat. Once the catheter is positioned properly in the disc the heat treatment lasts approximately 15 minutes.

This procedure has recently been explained in the national media, both television and magazines. The physicians at the Orthopedic Institute are performing this procedure.
